The Medici Cipher — a multiplayer 3D Renaissance escape room

Florence, 1503. The maestro's studiolo has sealed itself for the night — a counterweighted bronze vault door, twin crank mechanisms, and a room full of his secrets between you and the loggia.

Play together. Up to 8 players share one chamber in real time: you see your companions walk the room as cloaked apprentices, every dial and ring moves for everyone at once, and the final door demands both cranks turning in the same moment.

How it plays

1. The cassone — the maestro's codex is written mirror-wise; four frescoes of the seasons each bear a golden zodiac sign. Set the chest's four dials in the order of the year.
2. The armillary sphere — the horoscope inside the cassone names where the Sun and Moon must dwell (each chamber casts its own horoscope, so no two games share an answer). Align the rings and a hidden drawer yields two bronze crank handles.
3. The twin mechanisms — fit a handle into each wall mechanism beside the vault door and turn both within the same 25 seconds. Two players make it easy; one fast runner can just manage.

Walk through the open door into the moonlit loggia to escape.

Multiplayer

• Open a chamber and share its 4-letter code, or join an open chamber from the lobby list.
• All puzzle state is validated server-side and synced a few times a second to every player.
• In-game chat (press T) for coordinating across the room.

Atmosphere & controls

• Fully procedural sound: night wind, footsteps, dial clicks, gear ratchets, and the stone grind of the vault door — all synthesized in the browser, no audio assets. Mute toggle in the top bar.
• Desktop: WASD/arrows to walk, Shift to run, mouse to look (pointer lock or drag), E or click to interact, T to chat.
• Touch devices: left-thumb joystick to walk (push far to run), drag the view to look, tap or use the on-screen E button to interact.
